The Walther PPK (Polizei Pistole Kriminal) was introduced in 1931 as a compact concealed-carry version of the PP service pistol, and quickly became one of the most recognisable handguns of the 20th century. It served German police and military through WWII and the Cold War — but it owes its global fame to fiction: James Bond carried a Walther PPK from Dr. No in 1962 onwards, making it arguably the most famous pistol in cinema. The PPK/S variant combines the PPK barrel with the slightly longer PP slide and grip, originally developed in 1968 for the US import market.
