Every external component is metal: receiver, barrel, magazine housing, folding stock mechanism, trigger guard and sight block all carry the solid, cold weight of metal construction. The matte black finish closely replicates the phosphated surface of the original wartime weapon. At 2.8 kg this is significantly heavier than polymer replicas – and that weight is exactly what collectors and reenactors want.

Under-Folding Skeleton Stock

The MP40’s signature feature was its under-folding metal skeleton stock, designed to make it compact enough for vehicle crews and paratroopers. This replica replicates that mechanism: the stock folds securely beneath the receiver for CQB use and extends to the full 850 mm for field shooting. Both positions lock firmly with no wobble.

Black vs Bakelite – Which MP40 Is Right for You?

We carry two MP40 variants. This black model is the classic field version with a clean matte black finish – historically accurate for the vast majority of wartime MP40s. Our MP40 Bakelite edition (product 149) features the distinctive brown Bakelite-style grip panels of later production versions and carries official markings. Both are excellent – it comes down to which variant you want to replicate.
