The AUG is the rifle that made the bullpup layout mainstream, and this airsoft AEG keeps the idea that made it famous: a long 520 mm inner barrel inside a rifle only 80 cm long. You get the reach of a full-size rifle with the handling of a carbine, plus a MOSFET, a two-stage trigger and a spring you can change from the back of the stock.
The real AUG
AUG stands for Armee-Universal-Gewehr, the "universal army rifle". The Austrian Army adopted it in 1977 as the StG 77, and it went on to serve in Australia (as the F88), Ireland, New Zealand and many other countries. It was one of the first bullpup rifles in large-scale military service: the action and magazine sit behind the pistol grip, so a full-length barrel fits into a much shorter rifle. Its one-piece moulded stock still looks futuristic almost fifty years later, which is why the AUG is on so many collectors' lists.
Why it works on the field
- Long barrel, short rifle: 520 mm of inner barrel in an 80 cm rifle gives a straight, stable trajectory at about 390 FPS (1.41 J), without the length of a sniper rifle.
- Two-stage trigger, like the real AUG: pull halfway for single shots, pull all the way for full auto. There is no selector to fumble for.
- MOSFET: sharper trigger response, and the trigger contacts are protected from burning out.
- Quick-change spring: the V3 hybrid gearbox lets you swap the spring through the back of the stock with a hex key, without opening the gearbox, so you can meet a field's power limit in minutes.
- Ambidextrous: the ejection port can be set for right- or left-handed shooters, and the hop-up is adjusted through it.
- Tool-free takedown: the barrel group comes off the body in seconds, just as on the real rifle, which makes cleaning and clearing a jam easy.
- Translucent 300-round hi-cap magazine: you can see at a glance how many BBs are left.
Built to last inside
The V3 hybrid gearbox runs reinforced steel gears, a reinforced piston and piston head, an M110 spring on a spring guide with bearings, and 7 mm steel ball bearings. The rifle is built from aluminium alloy and ABS and weighs 3.4 kg, close to the feel of the original. The vertical foregrip folds away, and QD sling mounts are fitted.
Battery and charger: your choice
The rifle is sold without a battery by default. Use the battery and charger option at the top of this page to add a battery and charger, and the rifle is ready to play the day it arrives. If you already have an AEG battery, leave the option at none. Compatible batteries have a small Tamiya plug and fit the compartment in the stock, under the rubber butt plate: a compact NiMH battery or a 7.4 V or 11.1 V LiPo of about 1100 mAh. Long stick-type NiMH batteries are too long for this stock.
Sights and BBs
The rifle has no iron sights; instead, a long rail runs along the top of the receiver. Mount our red dot sight for fast target pick-up, or a scope to make the most of the long barrel. For everyday games, 0.23 g BBs in 3000-round packs suit this power; for longer, steadier shots, try 0.30 g precision BBs.
