There are weapons everyone knows — the MP40, the Thompson, the Kar98k — and then there are weapons that stop collectors in their tracks. The ZB vz. 26 is one of the latter. The Czechoslovak light machine gun that impressed the Wehrmacht so much they adopted it immediately after the occupation and designated it the MG-26(t). The weapon that directly inspired the British Bren, one of the most reliable light machine guns of the entire war. And yet it almost never appears in airsoft. Until now.

The History Behind the Original
The ZB vz. 26 was designed in 1926 by Vaclav Holek and produced by Zbrojovka Brno in Czechoslovakia. It became the standard light machine gun of the Czechoslovak Army and was exported to China, Romania, Lithuania and the USSR. After the German occupation of Czechoslovakia the Wehrmacht adopted the weapon as the MG-26(t) — the “t” standing for tschechisch, German for Czechoslovak.
But the legacy goes further. British weapons designers were so impressed by the ZB26 that they used it as the basis for the Bren gun — the backbone light machine gun of the British infantry throughout the war. The top-loading magazine, the quick-change barrel, the accuracy: everything that made the Bren famous began with the ZB26. The weapon also influenced the Japanese Type 96 and the Spanish FAO.

Practical Tips
- Seating the magazine requires a gentle hand — do not force it into the hop-up or you risk damaging the bucking.
- With an 11.1V LiPo the rate of fire is excellent; with 7.4V it is slower but still fully functional. NiMH works as well.
- The battery compartment inside the stock is wide and tall but not very deep (approx. 2 × 5 × 12 cm) — choose a compact battery.
- The carrying handle is sturdy enough to lift the weapon but awkward over long distances in the field. Use a sling for extended use.
